I hear a voice within me say this, with seething anger. And, I give in. My heart picks up a sword, ready to destroy the entire world. And, my breath lights the fire for the pyre. I can’t think of a world before or after, my emotions are stuck in the present and I struggle to remind myself that as intense as the rage is, it is fleeting. There are other things like friendships, love, community, bonds, in the world that could never recover from the sweep of my rage. There are dreams, gardens and a conscience in me that could never recover. And so I take a deep breath. I count to ten, I smile, I bring my mind to see how to channelize this force within me. This is a two-toned pink-hued handloom made-in-heaven mul cotton saree with zari in the border. And, it embraces all of you in its fluid, soft drape.
Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer, more durable and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and provides more insulation in winters. The dyeing process also becomes easier for handloom cotton as the colour penetration is substantially more. Hues are absorbed better thus look resplendent on handloom cotton.
