She tugged her coat closer to her body, that was her version of a hug in that moment when she really needed one but was far away from the arms she would have loved to have wrapped around her. As a secret tear slid down her cheek, a flower bloomed in her hometown, ready to cheer her up just as soon as she arrived for vacations. Maybe her tears were not completely secret, after all!

This brown handwoven Mulberry silk saree with intricate kantha embroidery is a piece of legacy that feels truly like home!

This is a handwoven Mulberry silk saree with beautiful kantha work on it.
Mulberry silk is a high-quality variety of silk obtained from cocoons of silk worms that feed only on Mulberry leaves. The brilliant shine that vibrates from this silk fabric spells class and traditional beauty. With handloom silk, woven by hand, the magic is exponentially more! The silk threads on the warp and weft of the handloom are woven into a fabric by the master weavers and the magic that ensues is beautiful!
Kantha is traditional embroidery that originated from the nimble hands of industrious women who upcycled fabric bits by stitching them together and crafted a beautiful kaleidoscope of art in the process. It has since evolved into a stunning craft that is practiced by artisans through generations. Kantha refers to a specific kind of stitch, the most basic one being a simple, straight, running stitch. The artisans use spectacular motifs based on simple geometric grids or more complicated, naturalistic designs including birds, foliage, animals and scenes of everyday activities. Working on a design using kantha stitch completely is a fully hand-done, laborious process and thus each saree can take 40-50 days to complete. As kantha work comes to life on fabrics, it transforms into a legacy that is often passed forward as heirloom.
